Chocolate Chip 'n Cherry Bars

Here's a simple recipe that dresses up a pan of chocolate chip bars with cherries. Everything mixes together quickly in one bowl and then spread into the pan for baking. About 25 minutes later, you've got a special homemade treat that makes a great after school snack, bake sale item or potluck dessert.
Chocolate Chip 'n Cherry Bars
Ingredients:- 3/4 cup butter flavored Crisco
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
- 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
- Confectioners' sugar for topping
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350F degrees and lightly grease 15 1/2 x 10 1/2-inch baking pan.
In a large mixing bowl, beat Crisco, eggs, both sugars, vanilla and almond extract on medium speed until thoroughly combined.
In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking soda and cinnamon.
Gradually beat dry flour mixture into creamed mixture on low speed, just until blended.
Using a large wooden spoon, stir in cherry pie filling and chocolate chips. until distributed.
Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.
Bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near center comes out almost clean and top is lightly browned.
Cool pan completely on a wire rack.
Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and cut bars into desired size and shape.
This recipe makes about 30 Chocolate Chip 'n Cherry Bars.
