Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies


America's darlings - chocolate chip cookies - get wholesome in this delicious chocolate chip cookie recipe.

We all know whole grains—like whole wheat flour—are good for us, so it was only a matter of time before they showed up in our chocolate chip cookies!

Adding whole wheat flour is a great way to boost the nutritional content of your chocolate chip cookies, without sacrificing taste.

In fact, I've been adding whole wheat flour to many of my favorite cookie recipes and actually prefer it.

If you are new to this process, it may take a little while for your taste buds to adjust but give them time.

Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 package (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips (2 cups)
  1. Position an oven rack in the center and preheat oven to 375F degrees. Line 2 or 3 baking sheets with parchment paper. Alternatively use ungreased baking sheets.
  2. In a large mixing bowl beat both sugars, butter, vanilla and egg with an electric mixer until well combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula if necessary to make sure everything is well blended.
  3. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt (dough will be stiff).
  4. Stir in chocolate chips.
  5. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto prepared baking sheets.
  6. Bake one cookie sheet at a time in the center of the oven 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown (centers will be soft).
  7. Remove from the oven and cool slightly then transfer cookies with a thin metal spatula to a wire rack to cool completely.
