World's Best Cookies

I picked up a copy of this recipe at my local Penzey's Spice Shop when I was there over the holidays. It's from Zania Shular, who says, "The recipe I have chosen is a 'secret' cookie recipe that friends have asked for repeatedly." One taste and you'll understand why.
I couldn't agree more. These cookies are chunky, sweet, crispy and chewy. Though the directions say that the chocolate chips and coconut are optional, I encourage you to include them.
World's Best Cookies Recipe
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Baking Time: 11 minutes per batch
Yield: 75 cookies
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup quick-cooking oats (not instant)
1 cup corn flakes or Special K
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional)
Instructions
Positon an oven rack in the center and preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl, beat together the butter, sugar, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla with an electric mixer on medium speed until well blended.
Stir in the remaining ingredients.
Drop the cookie dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake one cookie sheet at a time in the center of the oven until golden brown around the edges, about 11 minutes.
Remove from the oven and immediately transfer the cookies to wire racks to cool completely.
